How to dig a WW1 trench?

I'm doing an amateur film project in the summer holidays, and I'm making it about WW1 trench warfare. I want to dig a trench (British style, not German) but I realise I cannot just dig a large gouge in the ground. I need to know exactly how they were constructed, how deep, how wide etc. If you could help, that would be great.
